Rooms & Suites

Seventeen rooms,
no two alike

Four are shown here. The remaining thirteen are variations on the same themes: a valley window, a deep bath, a bed made up in Welsh wool, and no television unless you ask for one.

In detail

What each one is actually like

The Ffrwd Suite bedroom, four-poster bed and a chaise by the window

The Ffrwd Suite

£1,450 / night

Top floor · Valley terrace · Freestanding copper bath

The whole of the top floor, reached by its own stair. A sitting room facing east down the valley, a bedroom facing west, and a terrace between them big enough for two chairs and a bottle. The copper bath was made in Newport in 1911 and re-tinned by hand in 2019.

The Coach House

£1,150 / night

Two bedrooms · Own courtyard · Separate entrance

Across the yard and entirely separate: two bedrooms, a sitting room with a fire, and a walled courtyard that gets the sun until about seven. Dogs are welcome here and nowhere else in the house, which is not a judgement on dogs.

On the ground floor with a door straight into the walled garden, which means you can be outside in a dressing gown without meeting anybody. The stove takes about ten minutes to make the room too warm.

Under the roof · Twin dormers · Reading nook

Under the roof at the back of the house, timber-lined, with two dormer windows and a corner just wide enough for a chair and a lamp. The ceiling slopes; if you are much over six foot, ask us about The Garden Room instead.

What is included

Dinner, breakfast and the whole valley

Every rate includes the seven-course dinner in The Cellar, breakfast for as long as you want it, and the run of the estate: the bathhouse, the oak wood, the boot room and the library.

What is not included: the wine, the fishing if you want Tom with you, and treatments in the bathhouse.

Before you book

Four honest notes

  • Two nights minimum, most of the year
  • No lift, and the staircase is genuinely crooked
  • Dogs in The Coach House only
  • Mobile signal is poor and we are not fixing it
